Wellness Week

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On the week of May 7-11, Rosedale Heights is proudly presenting its first annual Wellness Week! Every day will be filled with fun, educational activities to promote the importance of positive mental health and well-being.

Meaningful Monday – mandalas, mindful activities and more!

Talk Tuesday – K-2’s will have a presentation from Ontario Dairy Farmers about Dairy Goodness and Grade 3-6 will watch a performance of The Secret Life of Riley K., an extraordinary musical about anxiety, mental health and courage. If your child is in K-Grade 2 and has a dairy intolerance or allergy, please let your child’s teacher know ahead of time so we can accommodate for the dairy presentation.

Well-Being Wednesday – Zumba for all! And FRESH FRUIT FUN

Thoughtful Thursday – Yoga for all

Fun Food Friday – Grade 1-4 will have an interactive workshop led by the Brampton Acro Ropers Jump Rope Team! Grade 7 & 8 will have a presentation by YouthSpeak on body image, eating and health challenges. We will have a closing mindful activity for everyone as well.

As a special week-end celebration, Fun Food Friday will also include a sale of healthy smoothies from Booster Juice! Please log on to your school cash on-line account to make your selection from the following:

Berry Blossom – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, passion fruit & guava

Pineapple Chill – strawberries, pineapples and bananas

Both options are dairy and gluten free and the cost is $3.00  for a small size smoothie. Orders MUST BE PLACED BY THURSDAY MAY 3. UNFORTUNATELY WE CANNOT MAKE EXTENSIONS TO THIS DEADLINE!

Thank you so much for your cooperation and support. We look forward to this amazing week focusing on mental health and wellness!

Sincerely,

The Well-Being Team of Rosedale Heights P.S.

Placements for 2018-2019

Dear Rosedale Parents and Guardians:

In May our staff will be making class placement decisions for the 2018-2019 school year.

Our staff will make every effort to place students in the best learning environment to promote growth, collaboration and success. We take many factors into account when making class placement decisions including Ministry of Education regulations, English Language Learners, special education, board guidelines, behaviour, classes (split grades), and gender balance. Our teachers, DECEs and Education Assistants know the students well and we rely on their professional decisions and input for placements.

We also appreciate that parents and guardians have valuable information to share with us. Please note, that while we do not accept requests for specific teachers we would like to know about teaching styles, learning preferences and classroom structures that will benefit your child. We want to set up classes that maximize the chances for a wonderful first day of school. When teachers, support staff and administrators get together in May 2018 to make class placement decisions, we plan to use parental input into helping us make the best decision possible. Please note, the final decision for the placement of students at RHPS rests with the Principal and Vice-Principal. It is our hope that with a lot of valuable input, all decisions will have the best interests of each child in mind. If you wish to share input with the school, please email vincent.anania@yrdsb.ca any time before May 14 using the subject line “2018-2019 school year”. Mr. Anania will confirm receipt with an email reply.

Our grade 5 students in Mrs. Lee’s class have created 200 “Surprise Bags” for sale with all proceeds going to The Hospital for Sick Children. Each bag contains some little treats, toys, mini games or candy. As well, they have organized a raffle where a $2.00 ticket gets someone the chance at winning a $20.00 movie pass. There are two movie passes so there will be two lucky winners.

This project was part of the Grade 5 Entrepreneurial Adventure which was a joint project with BMO.
