No Bus/Transportation in PM

Please be advised that the YRDSB has declared today an inclement weather day and as such there is NO bus or taxi service.  Students who usually go home by bus will need to be picked up from school today at dismissal (2:50pm.)

Thank you and have a wonderful winter break.  See you back on January 8th, 2018!

From Mr. Anania and Mrs. Waiser:

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Mrs. Nicole Schwartz who has been a part of the Rosedale Heights P.S. Teaching Staff since the school’s opening in September 1991. Mrs. Schwartz has taught grade 2, Core French, Physical Education, and grade 3/4 in the past 26 years. Her career has been highlighted by her sense of humour and her passion for teaching. We have benefitted tremendously by having Mrs. Schwartz with us as she has provided a great deal of history and context about RHPS. It has been fun watching her work with the grade 3/4 students this past week as they celebrated with Day of Pink, Door Decorating, Beach Day, Crazy Hair Day, Pyjama Day and a Talent Show. She made a conscientious effort to have her students smile with pride all week. Please join us as we congratulate Mrs. Schwartz and wish her health and happiness in the next chapter of her life.

We would like to announce that effective January 8, 2018 Ms. Erica Seetner will be assuming the responsibilities for the grade 3/4 classroom including math and language, while Mrs. Noa Daniel will have science, social studies, visual arts and dance/drama.  We welcome both teachers to our team and they can always feel confident that Mrs. Schwartz will be there for advice or information whenever it is needed. Once again, thank you Mrs. Schwartz!

At this time we would also like to thank the Rosedale Heights PS Community for its continued support, trust and school spirit. It has been wonderful to see how the partnership between home and school enriches the lives and experiences of students. It is heartwarming to see how our school is a place for creativity, inspiration and kindness. Please spend the next few weeks enjoying peace, faith, family and friendships.

Happy Holidays to all, and we wish you peace, love and happiness in 2018!

Reminders for final week of 2017

Here are a few important messages and reminders as we head into the final week of school in 2017.

  1. The final day of school is December 22 (also a DAY OF PINK) and the school re-opens on January 8, 2018.
  2. The items in the Lost and Found will be kept on display in the front foyer for two more days. Hopefully everyone visits the display to claim their items. We have found shoes, glasses, boots, hats, sweatshirts (25 of them!) and sports equipment.
  3. Students must complete the clean-up of the coatracks, cubbies and lockers by Wednesday please. Our students in grades 6-8 have lockers and it is important for them to clear out any items and leave the lockers unlocked over the break.
  4. On behalf of the Administrators at RHPS we want to thank everyone for an amazing start to this school year. We have a staff where 16 out of 42 team members are new to our school, and it is so wonderful how the Rosedale family and spirit has been so inclusive and inviting to everyone over the past 4 months. We are proud of the work we do and the commitment we bring to children and families each day. As we read in our School Touchstone, “staying true to ourselves we do what is right for our school community.”
  5. A Message from our YRDSB School Trustee, Susan Geller

In November, about 1,000 students, staff members and community partners came together from across the Board to form a Ring of Peace and stand together against hate, discrimination and intolerance. The student speakers at the event shared meaningful messages about the importance of feeling welcome, valued and respected.

At York Region District School Board, we are committed to listening to the voices of our students and communities. We will continue working with our school communities to ensure our schools provide safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for everyone.

Last month, our annual Quest Conference brought together educators from across Ontario, Canada and around the world to share, learn and discuss how to foster well-being in schools. Some of the themes covered included equity and inclusivity, and safe and caring environments.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about some of the positive things happening in our own schools and other districts. In recent months, we have had several international visitors come to our system and schools to learn more about the work in our system to support student achievement and well-being, including Qatar, the Netherlands, Texas and the United Kingdom.

We are pleased to have these opportunities to continue highlighting and sharing the great things happening in our schools thanks to our outstanding students, staff members, families and community partners. Your engagement makes a difference in our schools and I encourage you to continue getting involved in the life of your child’s school.

As we enter the holiday season, I am once again impressed by the generosity of our school communities and our students’ commitment to helping others.

Best wishes to everyone for a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful start to 2018.
